This Song Is For You
What made me think of writing a song dedications blog today was hearing classic country songs this past Saturday morning on one of my favorite country radio stations, #Clear99. I heard the song Live Like You Were Dying by Tim McGraw. One of my younger sisters chose that song for a memorial service for my dad. It brought memories back about all of the loved ones I’ve lost and the songs that were played for their memorial services. I wanted to make song dedications to the loved ones still marching on in this life. I want to spread love to each one of my family and friends. And thank each one for loving me. And for each of you individually being a special person in my life.
My song dedication for my husband is Holding Onto You by Miranda Lambert. Of course I don’t have the same personal experiences as Miranda does. I've never seen the sunset dance over Sunset Avenue. But there “Ain’t no moment like when I’m holding onto you.” God has given me the best husband for 31 years now. “Baby over the years, I’ve been moved to tears by the wonders of this old world. One of God’s mysteries that never fails to get to me is the moment when I’m holding onto you.” I’m thankful for us. My song dedication for my oldest daughter is God Only Knows by For King & Country. “Everyday you try to pick up all the pieces....God only knows what you’ve been through. God only knows what to say about you. God only knows the real you. There’s a kind of love that God only knows.” God loves you more than you can ever imagine. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. And to my youngest daughter, I dedicate the song My Wish by Rascal Flatts. “My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to. Your dreams stay big, your worries stay small. You’ll never have to carry more than you can hold. When you're out there getting where you’re getting to, I hope you know somebody loves you.” Be true too yourself. Be kind to others. Have faith in the Lord. For my mom, her song is Roar by Katy Perry. My mom a bad-ass warrior. She has taught me to have confidence and find strength in all that I do. Trust in the Lord and his timing. As I’ve mentioned before, she is a two-time cancer survivor. One of those cancer diagnosis being pancreatic cancer. Statistics show a low survival rate for pancreatic cancer. It is very fortunate that it was caught early enough for her to fight it and kick its ass!!! I’m so inspired by her courage through all of it. I tried so hard to be there with her for every treatment. She is the bravest woman I know. I’m so thankful for her. And I send out a dedication to my fun as ever wonderful younger sister. She’s beautiful, sassy, kind, caring, and just a little bossy!! Or maybe I just mean independent. Nah!! I've got two songs for her. R.E.S.P.E.C.T. by Aretha Franklin. People will find out what it means to you. (Insert laughing emoji here.) And Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars. “You’re amazing just the way you are.” I love everything about you. Thank you for keeping it real! One more dedication before the grand finale goes to my best friend. The other half of the dynamic duo. My best bestie I could ever have. The song You're Gonna Be Ok by Jenn Johnson. “I know your heart is heavy from those nights, But just remember that you are a fighter. You never know just what tomorrow holds And you're stronger than you know, You're stronger than you know....Just take one step closer, Put one foot in front of the other, You'll get through this.” Whatever the devil tries to feed your mind, evict it. Find truth in Gods word. I love you. “You’re Gonna Be Ok” And lastly, my final dedication goes to blood relatives, family-in-law, and friends. “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge. Thank you for all of the love and memories we have together. You are awesome.
Today's closing scripture is from Psalm 95:1 "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; Let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation."
